House To Investigate Withdrawal Of N1.17bn From Sokoto River Basin Account Follow @Hitbizafrika

The House of Representatives has set up an Adhoc Committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the conditional release and subsequent retrieval of N1.17 billion by the Ministry of Finance from the account of the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority in March.

In a motion raised on the floor of the House, a lawmaker, Musa Sarkin-Adar, said the amount which was released by the ministry for the execution of capital projects in the 2014 Budget was put on hold by the bank on the directives of the ministry and then retrieved rendering the authority incapable of discharging its contractual obligations.

He said formal complaints made to the ministry by the River Basin Authority have been ignored resulting to a standstill in projects being executed.
