Reps to wade into FG, airline face-off

The House of Representatives is to wade into the seeming crisis in the nation’s aviation sector, with a view to resolving the face-off between the Federal Government and some international airline operators. 

Clerk to the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, said in a statement that the Speaker, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila and the leadership of the House of Representatives had been briefed on the notice of withdrawal of services recently issued by some international airline operators in the country.

He said the Minister for Finance, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business, Minister for Aviation, Director General, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Country Rep, IATA, Emirate Country Manager. Chairman, Aviation Committee, Chairman, Banking & Currency, and the Chairman, Finance Committee are to attend the meeting.

He said a date for the scheduled meeting would be communicated to all the concerned stakeholders and organisations.

The statement quoted the Speaker as requesting all parties in the matter, and specifically, the Emirates Airlines to suspend any action and await the outcome of the meeting.
