Police spokesman says Buju has questions to answer after he boasted about spitting on officer

This is according to the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin.

Hundeyin made this known via his Twitter page on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, while reacting to a tweet shared by the music star.

@BNXN proudly tweeted that he ‘spat in [sic] a police officer’s face and it felt so good.’ He has since deleted the tweet. The police officers will be sanctioned for their misbehavior if established, while @BNXN will surely answer for his assault on a police officer," he tweeted.

Buju had shared a tweet where he boasted about spitting on the officer.

"Spat on the police officer's face and it felt good," he tweeted

He has since deleted the tweet.

The music star was involved in an altercation with men of the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday afternoon.

In a video that has since gone viral, the singer is seen shirtless, with just his singlet, arguing and confronting the officers who apparently block his car.

It is not clear how and why the music star got into the heated argument with the law officers.

However, this is not the first time a Nigerian celebrity will be getting harassed by men of the police force.

Big Brother switched things up on the housemates on Friday night after ordering Deji and Groovy to move houses.

Big Brother switched things up on the housemates on Friday night after ordering Deji and Groovy to move houses.

It was a bittersweet moment for this week’s wager task champions after Big Brother pulled the rug out from under their feet after ordering Groovy to move replace Deji in the level one house.

While Deji's move came as no surprise (Big Brother notified the fake housemate during his week's diary session), Groovy's was shocking enough to get the level two housemates protesting.

Recall that the week's diary session saw Big Brother query the housemates about moving certain housemates to aid the level two housemates with their Head of House games.

With house eviction being at stake for this season's HoH games, the level two house has been the worst hit, losing four housemates so far. Big Brother's plot twist sadly has the housemates in tears.

So far, Dotun, Chichi and Phyna have been inconsolable since the announcement.

Details: While speaking about his new album 'The Guy' which was released on Friday, 19th, August 2022, M.I Abaga told Dada Boy Ehiz that his inspiration was to showcase his legendary status.

In the interview with Apple Music Africa Now Radio, the celebrated rapper and music executive was asked about how he stays inspired after churning out 6 solo studio albums, 3 mix tapes, and 3 collaborative albums.

Answering the question M.I said: "I’ll be honest, before this project I asked myself ‘is there anything more that I can give? Why am I doing this, is it ego?’, and the answer I came up with is that it would be great if the whole world knew that in Africa there was a legendary rapper that existed, someone who put the whole continent on his back, someone who’s been doing it. I think that’s the rest of the journey for me, letting everybody know."

'The Guy': M.I Abaga's new album explores topics that might not be important to others but are heavy to him. He wishes to showcase the fallible and human face behind the superstar M.I Abaga and he recruits the assistance of generations of talent to achieve this. So far, the album's reception has been positive as fans and critics describe it as a thoughtful body of work.

ISWAP Leader Planning To Marry 21-Year-Old Kaduna Train Victim – Negotiator Raises Alarm

One of the leaders of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists group is reportedly planning to marry 21-year-old Azurfa Lois John, the youngest victim of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.

A member of the negotiating team, Tukur Mamu, who disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Kaduna on Friday, said the marriage could take place any moment from now.

Mamu said he got wind of their activities through a credible source.

He said as they have done in the case of Leah Sharibu “they are planning to marry her any moment from now.

WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that terrorists detonated a bomb on the rail track of Abuja-Kaduna train and kidnapped some of the 970 passengers on board on March 28.

Mamu said, “This is to alert the federal government and especially the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) that I can confirm through credible information at my disposal that if urgent action is not taken to immediately secure the release of the youngest victim of the train attack, a 21-year-old Azurfa Lois John, the abductors as they have done in the case of Leah Sharibu are planning to marry her any moment from now.

“One of the top commanders is said to be in love with her. This important information should be treated with the urgency it deserves.

“Even though I know that releasing this information will not only unsettle her immediate family and loved ones but Nigerians as a whole, it is necessary to do so to avoid the repeat of Leah Sharibu’s case.

“I advise CAN in particular not to politicise this issue or reduce it to mere press releases as I have seen in the past but to work closely with relevant authorities to engage the abductors on her case as soon as possible before it is late.

“I pray that in view of the uncertainties which are becoming alarming, the federal government will also act very fast to ensure the release of all the remaining victims.”

Man United agree to sign Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro

Manchester United said on Friday they have agreed to sign Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro in a deal worth up to a reported £60 million ($70 million).

United manager Erik ten Hag has been desperate to land a defensive midfielder since taking charge at Old Trafford and has finally settled for Casemiro after failing to sign Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

Troubled United, who sit bottom of the Premier League after embarrassing defeats against Brighton and Brentford, are set to pay an initial £50 million.

The overall fee would rise by another £10 million if certain clauses in the contract are met.

Casemiro has been offered a four-year contract with the option of a further 12-month extension, with the transfer subject to the agreement of personal terms.

The 30-year-old joined Real from Sao Paulo in 2013 and has been a key figure in midfield for the Spanish club, winning five Champions League titles.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce that the club has reached an agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Casemiro,” a statement from United said.

“The transfer is subject to the agreement of personal terms, UK visa requirements and a medical.”

Ten Hag refused to discuss the transfer at his press conference earlier on Friday, but Real boss Carlo Ancelotti was more forthcoming when speaking to the media in Spain.

“I’ve discussed it with him this morning. He wants to try a new challenge, a new opportunity,” Ancelotti said.

“The club understand it. With all he’s done for this club and the person he is, we have to respect it.

“If he doesn’t stay, we’ll have an enormous sense of gratitude to him for all he’s done. We have replacements within the squad.”

Real Madrid said they will hold a “tribute and farewell” to Casemiro on Monday which will be attended by the club’s president, Florentino Perez.

In a statement, the Spanish giants called him “one of the most transcendental players in one of the most significant and successful periods in our history.”

“Real Madrid is and always will be his home, and we wish him and all his family the best of luck in this new chapter of his life,” it added.

Casemiro played alongside current United stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane in the Spanish capital.

His arrival will fill a void in Ten Hag’s midfield after his prolonged pursuit of De Jong ended in failure.

Casemiro’s wealth of experience and success at the highest level will make him a certain starter instead of either Fred or Scott McTominay in central midfield.

He is unlikely to be available for United’s next match against arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday.

Instead, Casemiro’s debut could come at Southampton in the Premier League on August 27.

How Nigerian universities can become incubators of sports talent

When Oluwatobiloba Ayomide Amusan draped the country’s flag and mounted the podium for the national anthem after she broke the world record in women’s 100 metres hurdles on her way to winning the gold medal at the recently held World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States, it was not because of what Nigeria did particularly to turn her into a global star.

Rather, it was because of access to top facilities at University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). She had competed regularly against top athletes and also assisted by sponsors who have turned her to a world champion.

The same thing could be said of Ese Brume, who was a starry-eyed, but very talented prospect at the Delta State University, Abraka, before she became a regular podium contestant in major international competitions, when she took her career to a Cypriot university.

From a girl with enormous potential, Brume is now the world’s second best women long jumper. She is also a reminder that when ability and hard work meet standard facilities, the athlete becomes a world class competitor.

In most developed countries, higher institutions play a big role in nurturing sports talents to Olympic heights, because of the facilities they provide and availability of trainers versed in sports science.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, universities accounted for United States’ 91 medals and helped the country to the top of the medals’ table.

Among the top schools are Stanford University, which accounted for 26 medals, followed by the University of Southern California (21 medals), the University of Florida (17 medals), UCLA (16 medals) and UC Berkeley (16 medals).

In Nigeria, the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has, for two decades now, dominated higher institutions sports, winning the last seven editions of the country’s star championship, the Nigeria Universities Games Association (NUGA) Games.

However, such dominance has not translated to global medals, because the school, like many others in the country, has not risen from being a talent factory to becoming an international medals producer.

Recently, some private universities have shown that they, perhaps, have the panacea to Nigerian institutions poor record in developing world class athletes.

At the last NUGA Games, some of these schools, including Nile University, Abuja, displaced some of the established institutions on the medals table. This gave credence to the belief by some stakeholders that Nigeria’s sports ‘salvation’ now have a base in private universities.

Stakeholders, however, say the cost of producing a standard athlete for international competition is enormous and for any budding sportsman to rise to world-class level, he or she needs all the support he/she could get from government and corporate bodies.

DIRECTOR of the Sports Institute and High Performance Centre at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Professor Ken Anugweje, tried to put up a defence on why private universities in the country appeared to have a better grip on sporting activities, based on scores at the last NUGA.

He also disagreed that despite their successes at university games nationally and regionally, UNIPORT athletes don’t flourish on the world’s biggest stages. He added that not only are UNIPORT athletes world class competitors, some have on countless occasions represented the country at not just regional and international events, but even at the Olympics.

He said his school has remained the biggest name in sports and talent production, not just in Nigeria, but also in the whole of West Africa because it pay premium attention to the sector.

“If you ask yourself the factors that determine performance in sports, it is clear why UNIPORT dominates sports not just in Nigeria but also in West Africa. For any school to do well in sport, it must have the facilities, programmes and training plans based and centred on the athletes, as well as a well-structured training.

“The private universities don’t have the type of facilities we have here, but I wouldn’t want to dwell so much on them because I don’t know too much about them. However, I do know that some of the athletes that played for some of the private universities were already playing sports long before they got into those schools and were not trained by those universities.

“There are basically two types of athletes; the first kind is the athlete that is developed and trained over time by a university and the other type is the one that had been nurtured and trained somewhere else before representing a university at a competition.

At UNIPORT, there are two sporting international institutes: Olympafrica Centre that organises tournaments for primary and junior secondary school athletes and the High Performance Centre that develops athletes from after junior secondary school up to the university level.

Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha. Photo: AFP

Most UNIPORT athletes pass through the first centre before even becoming students of the university and from there, progress to the second where they go on to most likely represent the university.

Many of the school’s athletes have gone on to represent, are representing and will still represent the country at regional and international competitions.

Grace Nwokocha, Patience Okon, Ofili and Chukwuma were all at the last Olympics, last Commonwealth Games and African Games in Rabat, Morocco, Anugweje revealed. “Athletes like Ezekiel Nathaniel, Raymond Ekevwo and Praise Ofoku, to mention a few, are all world class athletes now. Nobody knew them before now, but they have all become household names doing Nigeria proud and all of them are proud products of UNIPORT.”

On how other universities can produce world-class athletes, Anugweje said university managements must have the passion to develop sports and put in the necessary effort and work required to get the job done.

“Many schools tell their students that they are in school to study and not to do sports, but they expect magic when it is time for competitions. Athletes from this development are not necessarily set to win.

“Whenever it is time for university games, national and regional, many universities would say they are hosting to win, but we never say that at UNIPORT because we train all year round, simply breaking the training into phases.”

Car stolen from Canada tracked to Nigeria

A 2017 Toyota Highlander stolen from Ontario street, Canada has been tracked to Nigeria.

The vehicle belonging to one Ahmad Abdallah was said to have disappeared from his street last September, according to CTV News.

It was gathered that the owner had given up on finding the car after surveillance video of the thieves unlocking his 2017 Toyota Highlander provided no clue.

More than six months later, CTV News Investigates said it was able to find his vehicle—sitting in a lot in a suburb of Lagos, Nigeria.

After seeing the video of his own car for sale overseas, Abdallah realised how truly organised the criminals who stole his car might actually be.

“I got a call from you. You sent me a picture of my car. Oh it blew my mind,” he said in an interview. “This is clearly a big operation. There should be more people looking into it…we’re talking millions of dollars. This has to be taken seriously,” he said.

Abdallah’s experience is a small window into a huge surge in car thefts striking cities across Canada, with an apparent epicentre in the Greater Toronto Area.

Rev Funke Adejumo urges pastors to stop telling people to stay in abusive relationships

Popular Nigerian preacher and marriage counselor, Reverend Funke Felix-Adejumo, has admonished people in abusive relationships to pack their bags and leave the affair with immediate effect.

The popular relationship/marriage counselor gave the advice during a live session on Instagram on Sunday, April 10 while reacting to the death of popular gospel musician, Osinachi Nwachukwu.

It was reported that Nwachukwu died of throat cancer and had been on life support for about two months. However, her husband has been arrested on grounds of suspected culpable homicide and investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that late Osinachi was placed on life support after her husband kicked her on the chest during a recent attack on her.

She also called on those who have spiritual authority over people to stop telling them to stay in abusive relationships.

“I am not a pastor but a pastor’s wife. I’ve been a pastor’s wife for 33 years. I want to say this to those of you that are privileged to have spiritual authority over people, please stop telling them to stay in abusive relationships and be praying,” she said.

“If they were your blood relatives, would you tell them to stay there? How can you as a pastor and someone tell you that ‘my husband is beating me, my wife has brought out a knife’ and you tell the person to stay there, we will be praying for you? God can never hear that kind of prayer. That is the abuse of power.

Speaking further, she said; “Submission is not subjugation, submission is not slavery. The fact that you are the head of a relationship does not mean that you should kill the body in the name of religion.”

She also claimed that she had sponsored Dikeh’s entry into the film industry, but had received no return on her investment.

“Tonto you dey buy diamonds for man but you have no conscience to pay what you owe me over 15 years ago,” she wrote.

“I’m not talking of the millions I pumped into your career after I brought you into Nollywood, and gave you your first ever movie role, and sponsored you with my last sweat, till you had your breakthrough and vanished from my life (what a user. I should have signed a contract).

“I am talking about the shoes, clothes, and gold that you bought from me. That money was N80k, in today’s money it’s equivalent to N8m, any day I see you on the road, I must collect my money.”
